As part of the City's Mission Green Program, the City has partnered with Midwest Recycling to provide a city wide reuse/recycle drop off program for clothing and shoes.
This program is designed to provide an avenue for residents to recycle their worn, torn, used, or gently used clothing and shoe items instead of having them go into a landfill. Additionally, this program generates revenue to help offset the City's Mission Green programs.
Some interesting facts:
The average US citizen throws out 81 pounds of clothing each year
95% of textiles worn or torn can be recycled
85% of all worn and torn textiles goes into landfills and only 15% gets recycled
Across the City, including Westland City Hall, are blue Mission Green drop off bins for clothing and shoes.
