The Police and Fire Retirement Board is governed by a five-member board with the following conditions per P.A. 345 of 1937 (38.551), Treasurer of the City, one member elected by Fire Department employees, one member elected by Police Department employees, and two members appointed by the City Council. Police and Fire Retirement Board members serve four year terms. The Police and Fire Retirement Board oversees the pension funds established for police and fire department retirees.
