Prevention / Diversion Program Services

  • Academic Enrichment Program - Weekly tutoring sessions are held on Mondays from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center. Academic Enrichment is open to youth of all ages and is only held during the school year.
  • Sexual Education Workshops- These workshops focus on HIV/AIDS and Teen Pregnancy Prevention. They are offered at least every other month and are open to all youth ages 12 to 18. Topics discussed include:
    • HIV / AIDS and STDs
    • Birth control methods
    • Refusal Skills
    • Consent
    • Abstinence
  • Community Service Opportunities- We provide community service opportunities to provide meaningful experiences and strengthen the bond between youth and their community. Opportunities have included:
    • Activities at senior living centers
    • Blanket making
    • Craft making for veterans and senior citizens
    • Food packaging
    • Participation at community gatherings
  • Guest Speaker Presentations - Members from the community share their stories with youth to encourage them to persevere through adversities and learn from their mistakes.
  • Karate - Free karate sessions are held every Monday at the Celebration Lutheran Church. Karate sessions are offered to program participants and their siblings.
  • Life Choices Groups- Weekly group meetings for youth ages 11 to 17. Topics include:
    • Decision making
    • Family communication
    • Goal setting
    • Healthy relationships
    • The influence of media
    • Risk-taking and consequences
  • Mentoring - Youth can be matched with a volunteer mentor to provide additional one-on-one guidance and support.
  • Parent Support Groups - Weekly parent support groups, which run concurrently with Life Choices Classes, offer parents the opportunity to give and receive support from other parents. Parents are expected to attend weekly meetings with their youth.
  • Recreational Activities - We offer many recreational activities including Family Bowling Night, Family Game Night, and College Visits.  Self-esteem and enrichment workshops are also available.
