The Fire and Police Civil Service Commission is governed by a three-member commission established under P. A. 78 of 1935 with one member appointed by the Mayor to serve a six year term, one member appointed by Fire and Police Department employees to serve a four year term, and one member appointed by the commission to serve a two-year term, thereafter, members serve a six year term. The commission oversees the testing and hiring of police officers and fire fighters for the City of Westland.
