Due to the inclement weather the ribbon cutting for the grand re-opening of Central City Park has been rescheduled to Monday, August 13, 2012 at 4 p.m.
Westland, MI – Mayor William R. Wild is pleased to announce that a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. to celebrate the grand opening of the recently remediated Thomas H. Brown Central City Park, named after the City’s first Mayor.
Since its closure in 2007 due to soil contamination, Central City Park has been an active remediation site with the installation of geotextile fabric, 10-15” of new soil and the site being balanced and hydro-seeded. The newly asphalted parking lot has over 200 spaces available with two entrances and two exits and new curbs as well as a new sidewalk that was installed along Carlson Road.
Future plans for Central City Park include the installation of soccer fields, pavilions, a concession area with family style restrooms and a plaza area that will host numerous activities ranging from the Westland Farmers Market to concerts in the park. The walking path will also be extended to these amenities as well as the popular Play Planet and H²O Zone at Tattan Park.
“The remediation of Central City Park has been a top priority of mine since becoming Mayor and this ribbon cutting ceremony marks just the beginning of what we have in store for this incredible park” stated Mayor Wild.
