COMMUNITY POLICING

Officer Thomas Rogers and Officer Kevin Smith

The Westland Police Department established its Community Police program in the fall of 1996. Since then, the program has shown an effective partnership between the Community Police Officers and the residents who live and work within the community. This partnership has shown a major impact on reducing neighborhood crime, helping reduce the fear of crime and enhancing the quality of life in the community.

Officer Thomas Rogers and Officer Kevin Smith are currently assigned as the Community Police and the Neighborhood Resource Officers for the City of Westland Police Department. These Officers handle wide variety of assignments which include bike and foot patrol, youth enforcement, tobacco and alcohol inspections, neighborhood relations, and crime suppression. These Officers are also the coordinators and spokesmen for the Community Watch program.
