The Fire Service is built on two key principles: Life Safety and Property Preservation. Our 85 uniformed personnel and 3 civilian personnel are trained and prepared for any situation that would compromise either one of those areas. There are five fire stations throughout the Cities of Wayne and Westland that support five engines, one ladder truck, five advanced life support rescues and a command vehicle.
The city of Westland has been providing advanced life support to its citizens since 1997. In 2015, the fire department responded to over 16,000 calls. Approximately 85% of them were medical based. We transport to three major hospitals in the area: St Mary’s (Livonia), Beaumont Wayne (Wayne), and Garden City Osteopathic (Garden City). The University of Michigan, St Joseph’s Mercy Hospital, Botsford, Beaumont Dearborn, St. Mary’s, and Henry Ford are all level 1 or 2 trauma centers that are used for trauma protocol transport.
