The Housing & Community Development Department offers several programs to Westland residents and homeowners. For all information, call (734) 595-0288.

 

            

The Westland Housing Commission manages the Housing Choice Voucher Program.

The Westland Housing Commission does not own any rental property. In order to assist you with your general housing needs, a book of available rental properties is located at the Jefferson Barnes Community Vitality Center.  Listings of HCV Program landlords and apartments in the City of Westland are available for distribution.
 

    The Assisted Living, Westgate Towers and Veterans Supportive Housing waiting lists are open.

Waiting List Change Form

Changes to application information form must be completely filled out on the Waiting List Change Form.  Submit via website service request or deliver to the Jefferson Barnes Community Vitality Center. We recommend that you make a copy of the form prior to delivery.

Family Self-Sufficiency Program- The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is available for families receiving a HCV Rental Assistance Program Voucher through the Westland Housing Commission. The purpose of the program is to work with families to become economically self-sufficient, establishing a five-year work and/or education plan with a FSS case manager. FSS staff assists the family to overcome obstacles to self-sufficiency, links the family with the appropriate service agencies, and provides counseling, job training and education assistance.

Assisted Living Housing Choice Voucher Program –The Assisted Living Housing Choice Voucher Program provides HCV Program voucher to eligible applicants, age 50 and over, who require the advantages of assisted living. Through this program, participants must select to live at one of five assisted living communities located in the City of Westland. In order to participate, applicants must meet Federal income guidelines, as determined by HUD income limits, adjusted by family size. The waiting list for the Assisted Living HCV Program is open. Interested persons can receive additional information and an application by visiting or calling the Jefferson Barnes Community Vitality Center.

Westgate Towers – The Westland Housing Commission processes housing voucher applications for Westgate Towers, an independent senior living community, ages 62+.  With the housing voucher, applicants pay 30 percent of their income for rent.  For more information about Westgate Towers, call 734.729.2900.

Veterans Supportive Housing Program – This program provides rental assistance for housing located in the historic Norwayne subdivision.  Rent is based on participant’s income.  Supportive services include Family Self Sufficiency (see above) and veterans’ assistance.
